OFFENDED BY LOVE
Gem of a woman, gentle and kind,
The kind mean men fantasize about
Which would be grossly unfair
If she didn’t fantasize about them too.
She was offended by love
And anything resembling support,
Refusing to reach out
Especially when struggling most.
Wielded thank-you like a daggee
Aimed directly at the heart
Of anyone whose caring deeds
Had nothing to do with their heart.
That’s what friends are for!
Oh, how she dreaded that expression
And its nasty implication
That to be good she must let others be good.
Hid behind intentions like a loan shark for hire
Not meaning to insult with her aloofness
And evaporating alongside repressed tears
When told her poor receiving gave bad vibes.
Wonderful woman, witty and wistful,
Reminded how she once saw a future
In which love was not synonymous
With a complete loss of control.
